Tualatin Riverkeepers is sponsoring The Tualatin River Paddle Challenge - a unique paddling experience which encourages participants to enjoy and explore the Tualatin River National Water Trail.

What is the Paddle Challenge?

From June 4th to September 5th (now extended through October 8th!), the Tualatin River Paddle Challenge will encourage you to kayak, canoe or paddleboard along the Tualatin River National Water Trail. Although there will be in-person meet-up paddle opportunities, the Challenge is designed to be completed at your own pace, on your own timeline. You choose the Challenge goals you want to achieve and we provide support and resources. Registration will be open until September 24th

At the end of the summer, Tualatin Riverkeepers will host a celebration to acknowledge and award your achievements.

Why should I participate?

Because paddling is fun! Here are some additional reasons to join in the Paddle Challenge:

  • An opportunity meet others who are excited about paddling the Tualatin River
  • As a new paddler, you’ll have resources to learn how to explore the river in a safe way
  • A chance to participate in a fun family and/or personal exercise activity with goals
  • You’ll be the first to know about Tualatin Riverkeepers paddle events
  • An extra incentive to get out and explore nature as an individual or with friends and family
  • A way to support the Tualatin Riverkeepers as we work to protect and restore the Tualatin River watershed through engagement, advocacy, restoration, access, and education.

Who can participate?

Everyone of all ages and paddling abilities are encouraged to join.

If you are new to paddling, we encourage you to join one of Tualatin Riverkeepers' paddle events.

Do I need a boat or stand-up paddleboard to participate?

No. Tualatin Riverkeepers has kayak, canoe, and paddleboard rental locations at Cook Park in Tigard and Rood Bridge Park in Hillsboro. A membership with Tualatin Riverkeepers will provide you with a discount on rentals.

In addition, Alder Creek has kayak, canoe, and paddleboard rentals available at Brown’s Ferry Park in Tualatin.

What is the registration fee?

We’ve made a conscious effort to keep the registration costs affordable but if you want to participate and are in need of a grant, please contact us.

How do I track my paddle miles/goals?

There are two ways to track your Challenge goals:

  1. Use the Strava app on your phone to join the Paddle Challenge and automatically record your mileage and days on the river
  2. Keep track of your miles/days on the river manually or with a GPS device/watch and email your mileage to us. We’ll manually update your mileage and days weekly on the Challenge spreadsheet

Celebrate your milestone with a branded headshot of you on the Tualatin River!
