Are you interested in getting involved with our advocacy work? If so consider joining our "Action Alert" email list. When the public can influence an important decision impacting our watershed we send an "Action Alert" to a list of people who have opted to receive these emails.
What sort of action do the alerts ask for?
Usually we are asking you to write in comments to a decision maker or elected official. We will either provide some suggested text or talking points to use in crafting your comments. The suggested language and talking points will take into account what factors or rules the official will be using to make their decision. This is in an effort to help you make relevant and meaningful comments. We also will provide a staff point person to answer any questions you might have regarding how to make comments on a particular issue.
Why is commenting important?
Input from the public can and does impact decisions. The more people who are concerned about a particular problem, the more attention that problem is likely to get. Receiving relevant comments from numerous people in the community can change the way a decision-maker deals with an application or request. In other words we need the help of our members to protect the Tualatin River and its tributaries. Together we can create positive change in the Tualatin River watershed.
How does the "Action Alert" list differ from the "Newsletter" list?
If you are a member, or if you signed up for an email list with us on your own, you are probably on our Newsletter list. We send out the "Heron Now" monthly and it contains updates regarding all of our work. We also occasionally send other emails like invitations to our big events to the Newsletter list. The "Action Alert" list is a subset of people who have told us they would like to receive special updates on how and when to act on specific projects and issues in the watershed. Only TRK saff can add someone to the "Action Alert" list.
How do you sign up?
You can sign up for this special list by sending Ashley an email at Ashley@tualatinriverkeepers.org and letting her know you would like to be added to the "Action Alert" email list. Please include "Action Alert" in the subject line of your email.
