How many kids can I bring?

TRK’s field trips are designed for 1-2 classes to be split into smaller naturalist led groups. Field trips can accommodate a maximum of 60 students.

How many chaperones?

Safety is one of our top priorities, so TRK requires an adult to student ratio of 1 adult to 10 students, though an adult to student ration of 1 to 5 is recommended, and adult supervision is required at all times. These chaperones (1 adult for every 10 students) will receive free admittance! We’ve found that it works best to assign these adults to their 10 children before you arrive at the field trip sites.

How much time do I need to allow for the field trip?

The field trips themselves last between 2 and 3 hours. However, don’t forget to fold in any time it takes to prep your students to load the bus at school and the ride over. We are unable to extend field trips if you show up late.

How early should we arrive?

Please arrive approximately 15 minutes prior to the start of your field trip so your group can debus, go to the bathroom, and get situated. We may not be able to extend your field trip time if you are late.

Example: if your scheduled field trip time is 9:00 AM, please arrive by 8:45 AM to handle check-in and payment for your group.

Please encourage any adults who are driving separately to arrive early as well so they have ample to get together with their student groups.

What happens at arrival?

To ensure your students can take full advantage of your visit, it is important that you arrive at your scheduled start time. A late arrival may make it difficult for your students to fully experience the activities in the 2 to 3 hours allotted.

Are chaperones allowed to use phones?

Chaperones please fell free to take pictures and videos of the students in your group as they interact with nature. Can you take a photo of them solving a problem? Can you take a photo of them engaging in pretend play? Can you take a photo of them sharing or interacting with others? However, for safety’s sake, please because cautious and aware of the surroundings and the students.

Please remember to send any all pictures to the teachers so the students can see themselves learning. TRK would also love receive any pictures of students learning. Please send them to Charissa@tualatinriverkeepers.org.
